Daphne Rubin-Vega(Mimi) created the role of Mimi in the original workshop and Broadway productions for which she earned Tony adn Drama Desk nominations for Best Actress and recieved the Theater World Award. Her debut Album, on Mercury Records, will be released this year. She co-starred with Matt Dillon and Kevin Bacon in the 1998 Columbia Pictures/Mandalay Entertainment motion picture "Wild Things" and will be seen along with Robert DeNiro in the new Joel Schumacher Film, "Flawless", due out later this year.

Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rahmi) Her riveting performance as Mimi in RENT earned her a Tony nomination for Best Actress and countless other nominations including the prestigious Drama Desk Award for Best Actress. She's graced the cover of Newsweek and appeared in Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Vibe and dozens of other publications. However, in the truest sense of the phrase, Rubin-Vega is not an overnight sensation. The Panamanian-born actress grew up in Greenwich Village and by her early teens had already started focusing on her musical and theatrical aspirations. As an actress, Rubin-Vega started honing her craft in a number of Off-Broadway productions including Randy Newman's Faust, which enjoyed a three-month run at La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego. She can be seen in the upcoming Joel Schumacher film, Flawless with Robert DeNiro, set to premiere in October.

DAPHNE RUBIN-VEGA appears as Tia, the young tango dancer who pines for Walt. Rubin-Vega’s portrayal of the femme fatale "Mimi" in Jonathan Larson’s Tony Award-winning "Rent" earned the Panamanian-born actress Tony Award and Drama Desk Award nominations for Best Actress. She appears on the original "Rent" cast album, produced by Arif Mardin, and she’s co-written ten of the thirteen songs on her first solo album which will be released next year on Mercury Records.
Rubin-Vega grew up in New York City, and began her career as a session singer before becoming lead singer for the three-girl group pajama Party. The group recorded two albums on Atlantic Records and had a number one dance hit with "Yo No Se." On her own, Rubin-Vega also recorded a number one record, "I Found It," topping the Billboard dance charts.
As an actress, Rubin-Vega appeared in several Off-Broadway productions, as well as Randy Newman’s "Faust," which had a three-month run at the prestigious LaJolla Playhouse in California. She has also appeared in episodes of popular television shows such as "New York Undercover" and "Trinity." She can currently be seen in the off-Broadway play "Gum."
She made her motion picture debut co-starring with Matt Dillon and Kevin Bacon in the murder mystery Wild Things.
